Paul Harris Fellow - Rotarian Howard Budarick
At our Annual Christmas Dinner on 14 December 1998, the Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc. named its newest Paul Harris Fellow - Rotarian Howard Budarick.
This is the text of the citation:
Paul Harris Fellow – Rotarian Howard Budarick
Howard Budarick joined the Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc. in May 1978 – just a tick over 20 years ago!
Howard is a real Club stalwart and is one of the longest serving members remaining in the Club. We all enjoy Howard's company and Howard is one who enjoys tremendously the fellowship in the Club. This is most clearly shown by his participation in “Heads and Tails” despite Howard's personal convictions which do not permit him to partake of the port even if he wins it – yet when he does he even brings a bottle to the next meeting. Howard still holds the record for the most consecutive “Heads and Tails” wins and for most wins by an individual!
For 19 of Howard's 20 years as a member of this Club he has maintained at least 100% attendance. Howard himself recently confessed to missing out in the 1997/98 year – only because he arrived in towns he was visiting the day before, or the day after, a Club's meeting day!
Howard has achieved his attendance record not only by attending meetings of this Club but is probably one of the most widely travelled and widely visiting Rotarians in Rotary! The majority of the Rotary Club banners displayed at our Club's meetings (and those still in cupboards awaiting to be displayed) have been obtained by Howard in his travels around Australia and the world.
Howard has single-handedly shared the name and the fellowship of Rotary and the Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc. with more Rotarians in more parts of this country and the world, than any activities undertaken by this Club and virtually all of its members. These are monumental achievements: 100% attendance and sharing the fellowship of Rotary and the name of our Club with so many.
Howard has served the Club with distinction as Treasurer on three occasions, the most recent being the 1996/97 year.
Howard is one of our privileged members who has been able to embark on a FAIM project. But, Howard did not stop at one. He has been on two FAIM projects to New Guinea.
Howard is a regular participant in the Club's commitment to the Hall Markets and has been ever since we began to be involved.
The Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc. is proud to name Howard Wilson Budarick a Paul Harris Fellow in due and proper recognition of his lengthy, committed and dedicated service to Rotary and this Club.
