The Rotary Peace Scholars Program

Rotary Peace Scholars program logo

Rotary International has introduced a program for scholars to study Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Rotary has established partnerships with seven internationally renowned Universities with high calibre programs in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Upto seventy Scholarships are awarded each year by the Foundation of Rotary International for study at one of these institutions for a period of two years.

The first intake of Rotary Peace Scholars began their studies in July 2002 and have recently completed their programs.

Find out more about the Peace Scholar program.

Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc has nominated two candidates for Rotary Peace Scholarships. We have been successful on both occasions!

Patricia Hewitson
Rotary Peace Scholar
First Intake 2002 - 2004

The Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc is particularly proud that we were successful in nominating a Scholar for the first intake of Peace Scholars in 2002.

Patricia studied international law at the University of California - Berkley.

Patricia has recently completed her course requirements and we are looking forward to hearing about her experiences and thoughts about the Program from the perspective of a participant.

All reports indicate that Patricia has been extremely successful and has done herself, her family, our Club and District and her employer and country very proud.

David Chick
Rotary Peace Scholar
Fourth Intake 2005-2007

The Rotary Club of Canberra South Inc has nominated David Chick for the 2005-07 intake for the Peace Scholar program.

David's nomination in the World Competitive phase of the process has been successful!!

David is one of only 53 Rotary Peace Scholars selected for study between August 2005 and July 2007. The Foundation could have selected up to 70 Scholars.

We are very excited and congratulate David on his success.

Before taking up his Scholarship, David studied at the University of Veracruz in Mexico for six months beginning in February, 2005.

David is now at Duke University in North Carolina. Duke University is a private university which is operating the Studies and Conflict Resolution program in partnership with the University of North Carolina.

David has settled in well and is progressing with his studies and looking forward to his first internship placement.
