Firestorm Story Tree Unveiled
Mt. Taylor Estate Residents' Association unveiled their magnificent Firestorm Story Tree on Sunday, 9 October 2005.
The tree is carved to commemorate the community's journey through time, including the strong spirit generated after the January 2003 bushfires.
The unveiling was attended by many residents and a number of dignitaries including indigenous elders John Halloran and Aunty Agnes, the community fire unit, Emergency Services Commissioner Peter Dunn, ACT Chief Police Officer Audrey Fagan, Annette Ellis MP, John Hargreaves MLA and Mick Gentleman MLA.
The Tree was unveiled by the Bevas family, the first residents in that area to rebuild, along with local children.
The crowd enjoyed music played by a local band and of course the magnificent sausage sizzle put on by the Rotary Club of Canberra South. The crowd was highly appreciative.
