Key Celebration Activities
Planting the Trees and Unveiling Benches
We marked the occasion of our 30th Anniversary with unveiling of a plaque acknowledging the planting of two trees and the installation of two park benches.
We are honoured that the Deputy Chief Minister of the ACT, Hon. John Hargeaves, performed the unveiling with the assistance of then President, Cathy Bandle and young Ben Alford.
The unveiling was held in the presence of a large contingent of friends, members, past members and families associated with the Club on a bright and cheerful day. A local choir then led the celebrations with the presentation of a number of songs.
Celebration Lunch
Following the unveiling ceremony, we adjurned to the Hyatt Hotel for a celebration lunch.
We were joined by many past members of the Club, some coming from as far away as Queensland especially for the day. We really appreciated that involvement.
This was a wonderful occasion with speeches reminiscing about the history of the Club from Charter President, Phil Moore and Past President Derek Black.
During the afternoon we were entertained by the recollections of Past President Hec de Borzatti.
David Kilby (a local ABC Radio presenter) gave a keynote address based around music associated with the time the Rotary Club was chartered and during its lifetime.
A celebration cake was cut by Charter President Phil Moore and then President Cathy Bandle.
In the background we were able to present a slide show of some significant images in the history of the Club.
